White Oak Update

2008

Update - Sept. 2008

Ol' Mother Nature has made it interesting this year. First too much rain, then no rain. Despite all that, the animals are doing great (the ones I can find by glassing anyway).

Elk
The Elk Bulls are slick, fat and have big racks – 6x8's and 7x7's. These Bulls are the last of a big herd we have had for several years. I think they are 10 years old. Needless to say at that age they are very large – we only have 2 Bulls unspoken for this fall. They are priced at $6500.

Rams
The Rams are doing very well. They already have thick coats and nice manes. We have a wide range of sizes and values. We presently have good herds of Corsicans, Black Hawaiians, Roan Texas Doll, Mouflon Cross, 4 Horned Rams & Barbarossa. I think some of these could be bow hunted early in the season, but it will quickly turn to rifle hunting. Most of these sheep have been on the property a long time. They won't stick around, when they see you – they're outa here!

Goats
We have some nice Spanish Billys and also some Angora goats. These are good hunts and impressive trophies.

Fallow
We have a limited number of trophy hunts on the monster bucks ($3500). Also this year we will offer several smaller bucks. Don't misunderstand "smaller" as it often still means Bronze & Silver Medal animals. I haven't seen them all yet but I feel we will offer prices from $1000 to $2500 each on many of these Fallow bucks. Call for details. This is a rifle hunt only. Every buck was born on the property.

Buffalo
The herd is doing great. We had a very good calf crop this year and all the animals have been growing and maturing very nicely. We will not be offering any cow or heifer hunts this year. We just don't want to orphan any calves. Maybe next year we will start reducing the herd again. We will offer some of the big bulls this fall. They are priced at $3900.

Whitetail Bucks
We have seen many good bucks in the evenings, but there are many that are out there that I have not seen this summer at all. I expect to be hunting 8 to 10 pointers priced at $2500 to $3500 depending on size. Everything I have seen has been nice, clean typical racks. I will update this as I see more bucks. Call if you have questions. Obviously everyone needs to know size… I would expect the bucks to run from 100 inches to 140 inches. I would say most were 12 to 16 inch spreads. Most bucks we are hunting are 3 years old with a few older 4 and 5 years old bucks.

Barbarossa
We have been doing very well at producing monster Rams for our clients. Last year we averaged a 40" horn on each side. That's 80 inches of horn length! This year's expectations are the same as they are still monsters and priced at $950.

Eddies Opinion
In the last year, visiting with so many hunters and hearing the good and bad stories, I tried to come up with a way to motivate potential clients to do their homework. Check it out in Eddies Opinions – Fall 2008.

Note:
Don't forget our fall hunting season ends Nov. 8, 2008, so don't wait to long to book your date. If you have questions, give me or Sherri a call.

For those of you whom have not been fortunate enough to sit down at the dinner table at White Oak – be apprised that Sherri Potts puts out 3 meals a day, tremendous spreads. I will point out just a few things Sherri offers to our guests. She offers a menu chocked full of exotic meats – Russian Boar, Sausage – sage flavor, Fallow steaks, Fallow breakfast sausage – mild sweet Italian, Elk steaks & Roasts, Buffalo roasts and burgers… We also have Whitetail, some Rams and we occasionally have grain fed Beef. We make our own jerky. We have a garden with fresh produce while it lasts. Green beans, potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes… Sherri makes all her own tomato sauces for Lasagna and Spaghetti. She makes her own pizza sauce and makes fantastic homemade Pizza for the clients.

Sometimes we have Shish Kabob's off the grill. Sherri has her own flock of Chickens, so you have real eggs. We have fresh Honey. She makes pies and cobblers from our own orchard – apples, pears, blueberries and homemade pumpkin pie from her Pumpkin Patch. There is always fresh coffee, sweet tea and homemade lemonade on the buffet table. Plus bottled water and soft drinks in the refrigerator in the mud-room – you just help yourself!

Sherri has published her own cookbook and would be glad to autograph a copy for you! She has desserts on the buffet table at night to snack on. In the fall we have fresh cider. You will gain weight at White Oak even though your guide will give you the deluxe "White Oak Workout" in the field. Compare this to other hunting lodges menus! When you have meals like this and a CLEAN & warm lodge, private bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, it's a pretty good place to relax. We also have a large hot tub on the south patio.

Native Whitetail Hunting
We have finally had some time to get out Native Whitetail Hunting operation off the ground. We have a nice 2 story house for the clients. It's a great set up with a lot of deer. You can check it out in the Native Whitetail Deer section or read more details about our Native Whitetail Hunting Leases at OhioWhitetailOutfitters.com

Thank You!
In closing this update, I wanted to say as always, Sherri and I (Eddie) appreciate your interest in White Oak, and a heartfelt THANKS to our past clients for their patronage, support and friendship.

We are going to maintain the high standards we set for ourselves. These are some interesting times we are all experiencing, but I feel some good changes are coming soon. At White Oak, we have had to deal with floods, drough, more violent windstorms, soaring fuel, fertilizer and feed and hay costs, an Eminent Domain taking and now the Ohio Division of Wildlife moving to outlaw the hunting and even the ownership of wild boar. All of these are just this year's events. All of this has made me even more determined to persevere and overcome. I often like to quote my father at times like this, "This ain't nothing we can't handle".

Well – another hunting season is upon us, so good luck to everyone this fall!

Update - Feb. 2008

Spanish Goats
We have several very good Spanish Goats on the property now with big horns and beautiful colors. They are wearing a heavy winter coat that will make excellent mounts. These are a very tough to hunt animal. They are in their 2nd year of avoiding hunters on this property. They are priced at 850 to 1050.

Russians & Razor Backs
This group of animals are doing very well. We hunted last week and had an opportunity to harvest 4 animals consisting of 3 boar and 1 sow. They are in great shape with good hair. They had nice teeth and a good layer of fat. We have seen several litters of young pigs. We always pass on pregnant and lactating sows. But, we do harvest sows that are not lactating. They are a good trophy and excellent eating. We have some excellent boar hunting to offer sportsmen this spring. Most of these animals are priced at 750 and 850. There are a few at 650 and very few at 950. Our spring season runs until the last weekend of March (March 28th and 29th).

Elk
We still have 4 big Elk bulls available. Two are 6x6's and two are 7x7's. They usually carry there antlers until mid to late March. They are priced at 6500.

Buffalo
We have removed all the surplus females and younger animals that we wanted to cull. We have a lot of big 5 year old bulls to offer. Depending on where we encounter the herd (they are running on a couple hundred acres) we might be able to stalk them for a bow shot. Otherwise, we will have to stay back always. Rifles work well and muzzleloaders are very popular and do a great job. Unless you have personally witnessed the Buffalo in action you will not believe their ability to run like a horse, jump 6' high – turn on a dime and are very powerful. So unless we have good cover, we are not going to crowd this herd.

Four Horn Ram
We have been harvesting several top quality Four Horn Rams the last few years. They have become very popular and we have a nice herd on the property now. A very wide range of horn shapes and nice colors and fleeces. The prices of these animals will range from 1500 to 1800. These are a very unique trophy.

Update - Mid October 2007

The drought is hanging on; and temperatures are hot, but the animals are doing well. I thought all was lost on the Whitetail crop this year, but July and August proved to be great for antler growth. We now have many 8 pointers available for hunting.

The Elk are heavy bodied and looking great. So far I have not heard a lot of bugling. The racks are very large with a lot of mass. These are 9 or 10 year old bulls. We only have 4 left for this season.

The Fallow herd is definitely showing the effects of a very harsh winter and a hot early April, followed by a killing frost later in April chased by a drought which also started in April. A lot of bucks did poorly on rack quality and we have hunted hard the last 2 weeks and I have seen at least 10 good shooters. The rest will need to grow out in 2008. If Mother Nature doesn’t give us another drought, then those deer will be monsters. So far we have harvested 3 bucks. They are all big Gold Medals, so if you want a big Fallow deer, we still have some. Just not as many as usual. We will be good next year.

For those of you that like to enjoy a camp fire while on a hunting trip, we have added a fire ring and several big timbers to sit on. It’s only about 15 yards from the south patio so it’s convenient. There’s plenty of fire wood stacked nearby. A client last year said he and his son always enjoyed a good camp fire on all there hunting trips and asked if I could have one when they returned for their next trip. After some thought, I decided it was a great suggestion and now it’s ready for all to enjoy.

You can read about these things in other places on this web site, but I feel it bears repeating again to remind or emphasize this, but, we want to make sure you are very compfortable, well fed (maybe over fed) and enjoy all the extras, so here goes: We have a big hot tub on the south patio, so bring your trunks. We have an observation deck, it sets out on the point behind the lodge. Imagine a very high tree stand that is 16’ wide and 24’ long with fantastic views! Our sunsets are the best here, and the observation deck is the place to enjoy them!

For those of you that have trouble getting around (there’s a lot of old bad knees out there) – we have a fleet of hunting vehicles; customized and camo’ed! So don’t stop hunting, just come to White Oak and we’ll get you to your stand and get your trophy back to the lodge.

We have big solid oak stands that hold 2 and 3 people – easy to get in to and keep you safe from the Boar.

We have a big concrete basket ball court with spot lights.

Custom made Gold Medal Fallow chandelier. Call if interested.

…a big rock wall with a tumbling waterfall – now that’s relaxing!

We have two walk in coolers. We have 6 bed rooms – 3 baths, air conditioning, gas heat and a lot of room to spread out and visit. We have a rifle range (actually we have 3) and a bow range for checking broad heads.

Meals feature our own home grown fresh eggs, our own fresh vegetables, our own venison, Elk, Buffalo, Boar, Beef with Sherry’s homemade sauces and fresh cider in the fall!

There’s a special area for washing your muddy hunting boots when you return from the field – just a few seconds of standing on the grate and using the water hose knocks the mud off and helps keep you and our lodge neat and clean. The mud room has a refrigerator that’s full of soft drinks and bottled water which you can help yourself to whenever you want one.

I could keep going, but the point is when you’re looking over my competitors, checking prices and services, make sure you know what your outfitter can do for you and what they cannot or will not do for you. Compare apples to apples – sometimes the higher prices are a better value. Do your homework and you decide.

We have many better then average Corsican Rams and Spanish goats on the property now, and many other rams as well.

There has been some timber stand improvement work done this summer plus we have harvested a dozen or so big Oaks. This has given the animals even more hiding places. So far, we have done well – most hunters have tagged their animals (not everyone), but we have had to work them hard. We keep a cooler of bottled water with us and rest when needed. After a hot shower and some rest, some hunters are ready to hunt another one the next morning.

We are once again offering some free ranging Whitetail hunts. Our native Whitetail population quality is great and we have some spots booked already. We do still have some good rut hunts and also the Youth & Gun seasons available. You might want to check out the details on this hunt. Call for more information.

As always, if you have any questions, give us a call.

We still have opening in October for Exotics. The 1st weekend of Nov. is booked full and the 2nd weekend of Nov. is ½ full and that is our last weekend this fall for exotics. DON’T DRAG YOUR FEET! White Oaks spring season will start in Feb. 2008.

About half of our hunting leases are booked. When considering a lease, you need to look and see the big picture. My leases are higher than most. The extra money gets you this: I own the property, I do not lease it or broker it for someone else. Quality Deer Management (QDM) has been going on here for over 2 decades. All my property lines are marked with good line fences – you know you are where you are supposed to be and the neighbors know to stay out. We arrest and prosecute any trespassers. I jailed 2 last year, 2 got away – we are already making plans for these boys now. I am meeting with the law enforcement agency next week to work out the details. The local Game Wardens and Sheriffs Department work hard to help me in that area. We use cameras more for catching trespassers then to see the deer. All this means the deer are not being pressured when you are not here to protect or use your lease. I patrol it often, as does my family. We keep the canines in check. We have good Turkey hunting as well.

A lot of leases that I have personally seen are fairly large and reasonable priced, but many are not fenced, not farmed, not much food or cover. They are not posted, patrolled, enforced and the safty and success rates for the hunters are often compromised. If quality, safety and success are important, than look beyond the amount of acres and the price.

So far my Son has hunted with bow 6 times, he has missed 2 animals and passed many bucks (small ones). My daughter has seen deer every time she has been out. My wife has already passed several bucks. She arrowed a 143” buck last year. This is the kind of action that comes from my kind of deer management. Now that’s a bargain in my opinion, but the hunters need to do a lot of home work and make their own decisions.

Update - Early August 2007

Some Elk pictures - on the property NOW!

  • We have had a dry summer here. It has impacted some of our whitetail bucks; so we will decide in September how many bucks can be harvested, but I expect the number to be low. Our Elk are huge. So far the smallest one I have seen is a very heavy 6x6. I have seen two 7x7’s this week. I hope to get some pictures soon.

  • Despite the dry weather, the Fallow deer are fat and doing very well. We picked up a lot of big sheds last spring so I expect some big bucks this fall. It is late July at this writing – I will know more in a month.

  • The Buffalo are doing well. A lot of big bucks and medium sized bulls plus big cows are available for this fall.

Some Buffalo pictures - on the property NOW!

  • There is talk of additional three doe tags for Bow hunters only this year. It has not been confirmed yet. Our deer herd is growing so much they are trying some new approaches to reduce the does, but not the button bucks – a very smart move, save those little bucks!

Ohio is really an “up and coming” state. We have always enjoyed the reputation of having great Midwest genetics. Now the overall deer numbers in this area is growing and more bucks are growing larger. I personally haven’t seen it this good since the mid 70’s. Before Guernsey county was “discovered”! Back then, the deer herd was just starting to be huntable. The locals hadn’t hunted much. The success rate was low and the bucks got to grow up. I can remember many mornings in November when I would be running my trap line at daylight and I would see eight to twelve bucks each morning. Some of them were huge. In a few years things changed. The locals improved their hunting skills and methods. Thanks to magazines like “Outdoor Live” and “Field and Stream” and their write ups on our area, we were covered up with hunters. Before long, you had to hunt very long and hard to see a big buck. They were not passed, they were harvested at a 1 ½ or 2 ½ year age class. Today, there is good deer hunting all over the state, so we do not see a fraction of the pressure we used to. Also, a lot of the locals have matured to trophy hunters, so today there are more young bucks passed and protected on dozens of farms in this county than ever before. It has been an interesting turn of events over the years.

  • Update - Mid March 2007

  • At this point in time to attain the harvest quota I set for this year we only have approximately 12 spots left for Boar hunters this spring. We are hunting up to and including April 14th, 2007. The Boar quality has been great this year. We have been consistently harvesting (and seeing) Boar that are larger than average plus a lot of big tusks. If you ever wanted a really great Boar with big tusks for some awesome photos or your wall, this spring is a great opportunity to get one at White Oak.

    * Note: This herd of Boar are going to be tough to hunt so I want the bow hunters to be willing to switch to a rifle (Plan B) if necessary, by late afternoon.

    * Remember: At White Oak we don’t offer a “No Kill, No Pay” or “Guarantee” on our hunts. We don’t have that much control, we do have the acres and we do have the animals, you must decide what kind of hunt you need or want. (See White Oak’s Guarantee). At White Oak we own and hunt over 1,000 acres of rough hill country and even though there are internal cross fences, we can still run the legs off our clients till they are not having fun anymore, so experience has taught us to have a “Plan B” as a benefit to all our clients.

  • We have had 5 big 6x6 Elk Bulls shed this spring, so there will be some great bulls for next fall. Don’t wait too long to book, there are only 5!

  • There will be a lot of nice buffalo available as well. I have found that for the very best in meat, mount, and tanning not to mention good weather that the best time to come hunting is from early October thru mid November. Last year’s hides and carcasses were great in that time frame.

  • We have several X-Large Gold Medal Texas Dalls and Black Hawaiian Rams in the fields. We have a lot of Corsicans, but no gold medal, but a lot of very attractive Bronze & Silver Medal rams.

  • We did a lot of Fallow hunting this year and harvested a tremendous array of Trophy antlered bucks. With all the hunts I was involved in I saw enough bucks to predict another banner crop of trophies next fall.

  • So far we have picked up several whitetail sheds inside the preserve, some scoring in the low 150’s and several in the 100 to 125 range, so we will have some good whitetail bucks next year. We will book about 10 hunts and will start hunting the 2nd week in September with rifles. There will be some price incentives for September hunters.

  • On the outside of the preserve, we have picked up several sheds as well, some up to 160”. This year’s guests harvested 4 bucks in the 130’s. Be sure to check out our list of satellite properties we will lease for whitetail and turkey hunting.
  • Update - February 2007

We have a great selection of animals for the spring hunting season (up until second weekend of April) and I doubt these herds will be supplemented till summer. So if there is something you want in particular you should try and schedule your hunt as soon as possible. The best way is just to check out all the trophy animals on our ranch and then decide which one you like after you see them. Most of the animals on the ranch have been there for a few years and many have actually been born on the property. The point here is that the animals know what hunters are and they are very smart and wild, so bow hunting is very tough. Sometimes with certain animals it is either too dangerous (buffalo) or impossible (fallow) to do it with a bow. The other hunts are tough and can take a toll on you physically, so keep it in mind you might need a “plan B” which is usually a scoped rifle. The herd’s patterns change throughout the hunting season depending on hunting pressure and current weather, but on average it gets tougher each successive weekend. Do plenty of practicing so you are ready when you get that shot. Here’s a run down of some of the animals on the ranch and available for hunting this spring.

Good Barbarossa:  These are always one of our most popular rams, by far the biggest bodies and horns. Another bonus of these rams they are the best tasting of the rams. They’re great in a crock pot or steak and gravy dishes. These rams are quite large and you can expect each horn to be over 3 feet in length. Very big trophies.

Only a few goats:  We have some nice Spanish goats, but only a few. Some have disappeared this winter, I assume the brutal weather had something to do with it.

Lots of Big Boar:  With the snow on the ground I can see much better now and I am finally able to see the boar before they get over the next ridge. I am pleased with the growth of these animals now that I have seen them. There are a lot of big boars out there. I would say 175 to 300 pounds. You put long hairs on that big body and they look quite impressive. If you have been wanting a big boar, this spring would be a great opportunity

Buffalo Deal:  Some great deals on some of our 3 year old buffalo bulls and heifers. The buffalo herd is doing well and I would like to reduce the numbers for pasturing this summer. Buffalo are enormous eating machines, and I would prefer to have a few less for that reason, so we will sharpen the pencil on some of the smaller 3 yr olds. Call for details.

Great Selection of Rams:  We presently have several great herds of rams, a very wide range of prices and sizes. The hair quality is extra thick this year. If you’re thinking ram hunt, we got’em. We have Texas Doll, Black Hawaiian, Corsican/Mouflon Cross, Dessert Painted, Barbados, Chocolate Corsican, 4-Horn, Roan and Barbarossa. If you have any questions on ram hunting, just give us a call.

Very Economical Fallow Hunts:  This spring we will offer limited fallow hunts on some bucks in our herd. These will be mature bucks for sure, but not our standard record setters. I am expecting a price range of $1,500 to $2,000 depending on antler quality. These will be scoped rifle or muzzleloader hunts.

We have bucks in our herd that are so old they are starting to lose the quality extra wide palms that are needed for high scoring trophies. So we are looking to harvest the heavy racked bucks with lesser palm width. This is easier said than done, both for the guide and the hunter. Fallow carry their antlers till mid April so we have a good spring hunting opportunity.

Our spring hunting season is 2nd weekend of Feb through the 2nd weekend of April. When you’re ready to book your hunt call Eddie or Sherri to check on availability on your selected date.

If you’re interested in whitetail hunting, we will have several nice bucks available next year and we have a lot of parcels of land for lease for native whitetail and turkey hunting. The parcels run from 20 acres to 250 acres so be sure and check out the details on “Hunting Leases.” Call if you got any questions.

    Update - November 2006

We have three good Spanish Goats on the property now. We will lower the price to $650 each for the special December 9th hunt. The animals are very wild so it would be best to hunt these with a scope rifle. There is also a good 4-Horn Ram that runs with this herd of goats. He is priced at $995 for the December 8th and 9th hunt.

Now that the leaves have been blown off the trees, our visibility has greatly increased. We have seen many big boars on the property. We felt sure they were here, but in September and October we couldn’t see them because of the brush. If you are interested in boar in the 250-300 lb. Range, we have them!

Special Whitetail Deer Hunt – December 8-9
These are mainly 8-points priced at $1495 and $1995 (price based on size). We will hunt these deer with low-keyed drives (finesse drives) – that’s about the only hope to get a shot.
Remember every deer on our property was born on the property. These deer are very wild and very educated. We ask for experienced hunters with scoped rifles on this hunt. I expect a hard time getting a good shot for clients. There are only about four bucks available. This will be an exciting and reasonable Whitetail Deer hunt.

    Special Cull Fallow Hunt
This hunt will take place on December 8th and 9th. We have three fallow bucks that we would like to remove from the herd – spotted bucks. I feel they will not grow antlers any larger to the world record setting proportion that I strive for. I believe these deer are silver and gold medal class, so be assured these are not small deer, quite the contrary, these are old bucks that have started to go down hill on the rack quality. Our normal Fallow hunts are $3,500. The 3 bucks carry a price of $1,995 for the December 8th and 9th hunt. Scope rifle or muzzleloader only.

We also have a monster Corsican Ram that has 41” long horns and super mass – a very high scoring ram. We’ll try and get a picture in a few weeks.

    Update - September 2006

The pasture is great right now and that means the animals are fat & slick. The boar are enjoying the heavy crop of acorns and crabapples.

Check out the Exotic Ram page for a lot of pictures of animals in the field. We have some great 4-horns and Texas Dalls, some of the best I have seen in 20 years.

We also have a good selection of smaller rams, a lot of 650 and 750 price range. Corsicans, Barbado and Mouflons.

The hogs we have been seeing have been fat and healthy. A lot of 150-200 pounders. I haven't seen much teeth on them, although the weeds and summer growth are very heavy. I haven't had the opportunity to glass their muzzles. I have been seeing a lot of Black and Russian crosses.

We have a good herd of 3-year-old Buffalo Bulls that will be offered starting in February 2007.

Last week we saw some exceptional Fallow Bucks. We did manage to harvest one. He cruised into the Gold Medal Class easily, both in Safari Club International and Records of Exotics.

    Update – August 2006
Here is a brief “update” of current events at White Oak in mid Aug. 2006.

First of all, we are excited to announce a new discounted hunting package. Read more about these exciting discounted hunts.

Last Springs Fallow hunts were very tough. We harvested several great bucks. The largest was 283 inches S.C.I. It’s widest spread was 36 inches. We hunted 4 days for that Buck. There was a white Buck that was never harvested that I feel was just as big. I found both his sheds. He is very large.

Then, in late June, while doing some logging work, I come across another antler laying in ‘Sang Holler’. I feel that this Deer has not been seen at all. This Deer is larger then the other 2 monster Bucks and anyone seeing him would certainly take special notice. Years ago when we held the World Record for Fallow Deer, that Buck was found by accident. It was found in the headlights. We then hunted him the following month. He was very good at hiding. Had we not known he existed, we would not have kept hunting for him exclusively, but we did. One late afternoon, we finally got a shot. The rest is history, but it looks like we have a shot at doing it again with this Buck.

So far this summer, the rain and clover has been great. The herd of Deer are going to live up to their full potential. This is something that does not happen every year. For Fallow Deer hunters, it will be a great opportunity this season.

I must admit that the last few years I have not had a lot of specific information on the Fallow herd. I see them at a distance, and have seen some good Bucks. Beyond that, I didn’t have time to look at them. Last Fall and Spring hunts were very tough. A LOT of man hours were involved in every trophy Buck we harvested. The good thing that came about was the amount of time I spent in that enclosure and the good looks I had at so many Fallow Bucks. I saw more Big Bucks then I was aware of. I saw more younger Fallow Bucks that will come on in a year or two. I am going to brag a little here… when I say “young Bucks”, I mean 4 and 5 year old Gold Medal scoring Bucks. For White Oak, that is a little Buck. At White Oak, we don’t look twice at a 5 year old Gold Medal Buck. The amount of mature Fallow Bucks is great and we now have a great antler growing season in the bag. We only need 4 or more weeks, and the pasture will produce that now. So we will have many great trophy Fallow Deer on the property this Fall.

    Ram Hunting

For Ram hunting, White Oak has a large heard of Rams on the property now. Many have been here for years and they are offered for the first time this upcoming Fall.

We have Taxas Dall and Roan, Mouflon, Corsican, Black Hawaiian, Mouflon Cross, Desert Painted 4 Horn, and maybe some others I can’t remember right now.

Many of these Rams are very, very large. Look at the Ram pictures. If you have been looking for a large mature trophy Ram, we might have them in the field right now!

If you have any questions, give us a call.

    Elk Hunting

5x5 and 6x6 Bull Elk (4 years sold): $2,495. This offer is only good for the Fall Season of 2006. It is a 1st come 1st served offer. It is 100% deposit to hold these Bull Elk. This offer is void after Nov. 11th, 2006 or the available Bull Elk are sold.

These Bulls have large bodies and medium sized racks. I feel they will give the very old Bulls with very large racks a hard time this winter, so I’m trying to reduce the numbers in the herd. I can lose some money on the sale price or I can take the entire loss of a big old Bull Elk this winter.

If you have been thinking about Elk hunting, I doubt if you can beat this quality animal at this price! Have questions? Pick up the phone.

    Update – Feb. 2006
Here is a brief “update” of current events at White Oak in early Feb. 2006.

Our Native Ohio Archery Hunts for the 2006 Season is already booked full.

I am going to offer some of my choice Whitetail Deer hunting property to be leased by corporations or individuals. These large tracts offer good cover and Big Buck Management Programs in effect for over 10 years. Read more details…

Most of these herds have been on the property for a long time and what ever is not harvested this Spring will be available this Fall. So if you are not able to hunt with us this spring, keep us in mind for a early Fall hunt.

Goats – We do have some very good colors and large horns. We primarily have Spanish and Catalina Goats. There are many nice multi-colored animals. I doubt if we can bow hunt these animals, they have been on the property a long time and they know the game plan.

As always, I encourage my past clients and potential clients to do their research. Give us a call if you have questions on what we offer, how we do it, what you can expect and what all the options are. On our preserve, it is definitely not “one size fits all”. If we know what you are capable of and what the desired out come of this hunt is, then we will work very hard to try and achieve those desired results. (Give is a call).

    2005-2006

    Special Dec. 9th & 10th 2005 Hunt!
We will be hunting Elk, Buffalo, Fallow Deer and Whitetail Deer. Book your winter hunting adventure now!

Floods! Not just one, we had 3! Last year we were the lucky reciepients of 3 devistating floods. They really caused a lot of damage to water gates and culverts and our road system. So a great deal of this summer has been devoted to the rebuilding of the water gates and installing even more culverts and improving the road system. It has turned out very well. I have even built several new roads to access a lot of areas we have never been able to get to with 4 wheel vehicles. It should be very helpful with hunting and retrieving downed game. Until clients have seen a lot of our property, they never fully realized the amount of work and maintence it takes to keep this road system safe and in operation.

Drought. It has been a hot, dry summer. When you manage the pasture, timber and animal herds, you really hate to see a drought. We have learned some hard lessons in the late 80’s and early 90’s, with some bad droughts. We have added many lakes and ponds all over our property. Even through the grass is shorter then I like, the lakes are full and all the springs are still running. The animals look very good dispite the shortage of lush pasture. Hopefully, we will get some rain and a good Indian summer. The should bring on the Fall pasture.

Timber Stand Improvement. We have thinned a lot of young timber this summer and harvested a few big Oaks for lumber for our 2nd Hunting Lodge. It has put a lot of big tree tops on the ground. This has been done mainly in the Boar enclosure and it will make finding a Boar even harder. The increased cover will certainly benefit the Boar more than the hunters. There are a few more big Oaks that are stressed by the drought and are scheduled to be harvested this fall. It will make fantastic habitat for the ol’ Wild Boars!

Land Clearing. August, with it’s typical dry weather has been devoted to clearing brush and junk timber with a bulldozer. After pushing out the root system the dirt falls off and you don’t loose all your quality top soil. So we have added a lot more acres of good clover pasture for the Fallow bucks. It should also help the hunting, some of these areas are going to be great shooting lanes with rifles. Last yer we sent several hunters home with out there Fallow bucks. The new pastures should give us an edge, at least for this fall. Then they will figure that out too…

Super Rams. Last year I was luckey enough to buy a herd of young Rams that have super potential. We have turned them out in there own enclosure and they are off limits to hunting for 2 more years. There will be some huge record book animals plus they have some beautiful coats and manes. They are all Texas Dall & Roan colors. If you are looking for an exceptional mount for the Trophy Room, these are the animals – if you have any questions, give us a call.

    2004-2005

This past Deer Season was very good for the Potts’s, Sherri got a perfect 10 pointer using her Remington In-line Muzzleloader and Eddie got a big 9 pointer, he also uses a Remington In-line Muzzleloader. Because of good management the deer hunting has been great lately. Both inside the fence and outside also, and I think the best is yet to come.

If you are planning a hunt, then come and hunt with hunters!

White Oak currently holds the #4 and #5 spot for Fallow Deer in Safari Club International (S.C.I.) record book, that’s the 4th and 5th biggest bucks shot at any time, any where in the world. My good friend Trent Wagner harvested both of these monster bucks. Trent got “hooked” on Fallow on his first hunt at White Oak.

This year we harvested 13 Fallow Bucks, they all easily made the "Gold" category in the record book. Next years crop will be as good or maybe better.

At the moment, it looks like Trent Wagner did it again, he harvested the new SCI number 9 Fallow Buck at White Oak this Oct. It was a big gray spotted Fallow Buck, with huge multi-forked heel tines. I will keep you posted after the Fallow Buck has been officially measured by an SCI Master Scorer. Another good friend and client, Dave Nerti, harvested a big spotted Fallow Buck. After a quick rough score, it appears this Fallow Buck will easily surpass the 300 inch mark, and also join the top 10 Fallow Bucks ever harvested in the world. I also want to mention, we harvested many Fallow Bucks this past fall that are huge! I believe we have many record setters in that group. They will be officially measured this spring. I will keep you posted on the results. Some more good news, there are still several Fallow bucks in the field of the same quality, and a lot of 'up-and-commers'. So this fall will be great for taking the big boys. Our success rate this year for Fallow Bucks was very good, about 80% - only a few hunters went home w/out their trophies, and a few hunters had to make two trips to harvest their trophy Fallow Bucks - but that only goes to show that these animals are truly wild and smart. I will guarantee he's in the field, but I can't guarantee you will tag him.
We still have 8 Whitetail Deer hunts available. There are mostly 8 pointers, 2 and 3 year old bucks. There are a few smaller ones also. These hunts are priced RIGHT! - first come, first serve. These are Rifle or Muzzleloader Whitetail Deer hunts. Call now while selection is good.

Speaking of World Records, in the latest edition of “Records of Exotics” published by Thompson Temple, we were pleased to see that in the Muzzle loader categories White Oak held the world record Texas Dall Ram and 4-Horn Ram, my cigar smoking buddy Rick Greene harvested both! Congratulations Rick!

The Buffalo herd is doing very well. We had a good calf crop last spring. The Big Bulls are still growing. We will have several super animals available this year and we will also be able to handle the butchering for Elk and Buffalo, there are also a few smaller bulls available. We will also remove some big cows from the herd, prices are $2200 - $2500.

The Fallow herd is great, there are dozens of Monster Bucks out there. While working out in the field this summer I have seen four spots and two whites that really stand out, They dwarf a normal gold medal buck. They could very well rank in the top 10 of the record books.

    Sherri's New Cookbook:

After a lot of work the new cookbook is hot off the press! 190 mouth watering recipes focusing mainly on Exotic Animal meats. It is a must for all hunters, you can purchase one while on your hunting trip to White Oak.
Sherri and I would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our past clients, so many have turned into very dear friends and we really appreciate there help and support to allow us to make a living doing what we love to do.
