Last Springs Fallow hunts were very tough. We harvested several great bucks. The largest was 283 inches S.C.I. It’s widest spread was 36 inches. We hunted 4 days for that Buck. There was a white Buck that was never harvested that I feel was just as big. I found both his sheds. He is very large.
Then, in late June, while doing some logging work, I come across another antler laying in ‘Sang Holler’. I feel that this Deer has not been seen at all. This Deer is larger then the other 2 monster Bucks and anyone seeing him would certainly take special notice. Years ago when we held the World Record for Fallow Deer, that Buck was found by accident. I was out doing chores after dark (very long days) and he ran across the road and WOW, did you see the size of that one! We then hunted him the following month. He was very good at hiding. Had we not known he existed, we would not have kept hunting for him exclusively, but we did. One late afternoon, we finally got a shot. The rest is history, but it looks like we have a shot at doing it again with this Buck.
So far this summer, the rain and clover has been great. The herd of Deer are going to live up to their full potential. This is something that does not happen every year. For Fallow Deer hunters, it will be a great opportunity this season.
I must admit that the last few years I have not had a lot of specific information on the Fallow herd. I see them at a distance, and have seen some good Bucks. Beyond that, I didn’t have time to look at them. Last Fall and Spring hunts were very tough. A LOT of man hours were involved in every trophy Buck we harvested. The good thing that came about was the amount of time I spent in that enclosure and the good looks I had at so many Fallow Bucks. I saw more Big Bucks then I was aware of. I saw more younger Fallow Bucks that will come on in a year or two. I am going to brag a little here… when I say “young Bucks”, I mean 4 and 5 year old Gold Medal scoring Bucks. For White Oak, that is a little Buck. At White Oak, we don’t look twice at a 5 year old Gold Medal Buck. The amount of mature Fallow Bucks is great and we now have a great antler growing season in the bag. We only need 4 or more weeks, and the pasture will produce that now. So we will have many great trophy Fallow Deer on the property this Fall.
White Oak has been producing monster Fallow Deer for almost 2 decades.
Our present Fallow Deer herd (6/29/2008) is probably the best we’ve ever produced.
There are over 100 Fallow Deer bucks on our ranch. I estimate we have well
over 30 extra large Fallow bucks. We have all color phases.
Fallow Deer hunting is with rifle, although we do some bow hunting. This is for seasoned bow hunters only, tree stand, over bait. It is the only way to get a bow shot.
We do some spot and stalk and stand hunting, also drives. Safari style out
of 4X4 trucks is gaining popularity
every year. We use pasture rotation, hundreds of tons of high phosphorus lime,
a balanced fertilizer program.
The result is a crop of huge Fallow Deer
antlers. Last August my son Adam and I were watching a nice bachelor herd of
about 12 to 14 Fallow bucks grazing on a hillside below the lodge. They were both joking
about how could you ever make up your mind on which was the biggest Fallow buck. They
were all exceptional Fallow Deer.

A Cull Buck is a deer I would like to see removed from the herd. It does not mean it is small or unattractive. It is a Fallow Deer that has, in my opinion, reached his peak. There is no need to keep that Fallow Buck on the property any longer. We have shot several "Cull" bucks that scored Silver & Gold!

Note:
Over
the many years of harvesting large Fallow Bucks produced on White Oak Exotic Hunting
Preserve land, the majority of them have not been scored. We know that they are
exceptional, the clients are happy, that’s as far as it goes.
To emphasize the point that our Fallow Deer herd is exceptional in quality,
I would point out that in the Safari club International (SCI) record book,
when you look at the top 10 Fallow Bucks harvested, White Oak produced
four of them, (keyword – produced, not purchased, not released),
that’s four of the largest bucks in the entire world, taken
anytime in history, period.
We also have several Fallow bucks in the top 20 categories as well. It would be an
understatement to say I am very proud
of that accomplishment, and I sometimes wonder what the record books would
look like if we measured all those other Fallow bucks. Some more good news, there
are still over 100 Fallow Bucks of the same genetic lines living on our ranch, and
the next few years will certainly put more “Fallow Antlers” in
the record book. If you are looking for a nice life-size Fallow Deer mount on a white,
chocolate, or spotted color phase. September is the usually the best month.
The best time for the chocolate – spotted cross, is early October, that’s
the most colorful spot pattern for them. In late October, most Fallow bucks are stained
and have some battle scars, although they will have the Big Bull necks and
a lot of character. If you have any questions concerning Fallow Deer hunting just
